Offer Description

The Department of Ecosystem Management, Climate and Biodiversity, Institute of Silviculture is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate.

Forests are the most important terrestrial carbon reservoir and silviculture and forest ecosystem management directly influence this reservoir through the choice of tree species and management. In addition, climatic conditions change and thus, in combination with management, influence the fulfillment of forest functions (protection, utilization, carbon storage, etc.). The Institute of Silviculture has a long tradition of working on these issues and is looking for a Postgraduate Research Associate for a limited period of 4 years.

Extent of employment: 30 hours per week 
Duration of employment: 15th of August 2025, limited to 14th of August 2029   

Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1
Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 2.786,10 
(payable 14 times per year) 

Responsibilities

  • Dissertation (PhD thesis) in the field of carbon pools, risks
    according to different forest management strategies is desired
  • Research in forest managment under climate change
  • Statistical data analysis and programming
  • Teaching in Silviculture (in German) for practical topics in the
    forest

Required skills and qualifications

  • Diploma degree in Forest Science or other equivalent university degree
  • Very good skills in German and English

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • Knowledge about forest management in central Europe
  • Experience with long term and forest inventory data
  • Basic programming skills
  • Carbon cycling principles and carbon calculation methods
  • Didactic skills
